One of the things that I’ve learned since I started my fitness journey is that you have to set goals, track your progress, daily food intake, and workouts. This CordaRoy’s Convertible Chair/bean bag review couldn’t have come at a better time! I was really excited when they said they wanted to work with me and have me review their product. What made it even better is that the convertible chair/bean bag I reviewed also doubles up as a full size bed. I know right!! That’s pretty darn neat huh?

So let me tell you a little story first, then we’ll get to the review. I have been telling the hub’s for weeks now that I wanted a bean bag. He always said “where on earth would you put it?” I’d always smile and say “oh trust me my quiet little corner awaits it.” That would always bring on a ha ha from him and he’d say “OK it’s gonna keep on waiting.” I think that was his way of saying are you sure you want a bean bag, there? Which also meant I’d should think long and hard about it before investing in something I won’t like later.

Little did he know that the longer I thought about it the more determined I was about getting one. You see, I like having a little corner in our room that has my writing supplies, books, and journals all on a neat little book shelf. I always thought you know a bean bag would be perfect there! I could sit comfortably and write, read or just relax. I had a vision and was pretty determine to make it happen. So that brings us back to how excited I am to be working with CordaRoy’s and reviewing their Convertible Chair/bean bag.

When the box arrived I was a little worried, I started thinking that it was going to be one of those tiny, uncomfortable bean bag chair like you find in Walmart etc. (because the size of the box) But little did I know that it was packed air tight. You can see how compressed it was when I opened the box in the images below.

As you can see from the pictures the longer it sat out opened the bigger it became. I love how they gave step by step instructions on setting it up. As goofy as I am I would have probably let it sit a while then tried to put the cover on. HA HA I laugh now because that would never had worked. (at first) The instructions said to shake it and fluff it so I did and was shocked at how much fuller and bigger it became. It also stated that the bean bag should be completely fluffed and full after being out over night. Indeed it was!! I couldn’t believe how fluffy and big it got within a few hours, then the next morning it was amazing! The hub’s got comfortable in it as soon as he woke up. His only complaint was that it was low to the ground. (he doesn’t like sitting low to the ground).

Aside from it being super comfy and fluffy, not like any bean bag I’ve ever seen. It also was the perfect color and matched nicely with our bedroom decor. But wait I am not done raving yet, did I mention that it can be converted into a full size bed? Yeppers, all you have to do it take out the inner brown foam filled sack, spread it out, let it sit to flatten and viola you’ve got yourself an extra sleeping mattress.

Healthy Lo- Cal Lunch or Dinner – Whole Wheat Wrap filled with Solid White Albacore, Spinach, Swiss Cheese, Red Onion with a drizzle of Smokin Bacon Ranch Dipping Sauce.

I like eating this healthy wrap for both lunch and dinner. It’s very filling solo but you can add a side of fresh fruit and lo-calorie/non fat yogurt for a healthy dinner.

Ingredients:

1 – Whole Wheat Tortilla Wraps - Smart & Delicious 100 Calorie Whole Wheat Wrap or La Banderita Low Carb Wheat Wrap

1/4 cup – Bubble Bee Solid White Albacore in Water

1- medium slice – Red Onion

1 Slice – Swiss Cheese or your favorite cheese (optional)

1/2 cup – Fresh Spinach or Fresh Baby Spinach (I use Fresh Express Spinach)

1 tbsp – Lo-Calorie – Fat Free Dressing (I used Kraft Dipping Sauce – Smokin Bacon Ranch) optional

Red Crushed Pepper Flakes (optional)

Putting it together: 

Drain tuna and set aside.
Heat wrap with the slice of cheese in the middle, either on a heated griddle or in microwave for 30 seconds.
Put the Spinach on top of the cheese slice, add the onions and tuna. Drizzle with dressing and sprinkle with red pepper flakes.

Roll your wrap – grab the sides of the tortilla and tuck them in, pull the rounded corner that is closest to you up to the edge of the other side while pushing all the goodies to the center of wrap. Tuck it tightly under the tuna and spinach and roll up. Slice diagonally and serve with fresh fruit or eat solo.

Calorie Break Down:

100- Whole Wheat Wrap

60 – Tuna

6 – 1 medium slice Red Onion

80 – Slice Swiss Cheese

5 – 1/2 cup Spinach

50 – 1 tbsp Kraft Smokin Bacon Ranch Dipping Sauce

301 Total Calories

I will eventually stop eating it with the dipping sauce, this is a process for me and I am still adapting to the healthy eating lifestyle. But if you think about it 301 calories sure beats – 890 from a Chick-fil Spicy Chicken Sandwich Combo Meal (calories doesn’t include the fountain drink)

Welcome to Part 2 of my Overweight to Healthy & Fit Story, if you haven’t read the beginning visit here. If you have thanks for joining me again today!! It’s a pleasure to have you! Now where were we? Oh yeah… I was telling you about how I was still taking the lazy way out and trying every quick fix & fad diet out there. Again some of them worked but like I said they were quick fixes, I knew that I’d never reach my fitness goal doing quick fixes.

I had to make some changes not only in my eating habits but as well as my daily activity. Yes, housework in itself is a job, but if you’re eating more calories than you’re burning then your actually storing fat. To be completely honest I didn’t pay attention to calories then and most certainly wasn’t worried about burning them.

Now don’t get me wrong I wasn’t being a complete pig and eating tons of junk food and unhealthy stuff. I would start my day off with a cup of coffee with sugar and french vanilla creamer, then mid morning another cup. Lunch was normally sweetened iced tea with either left-overs from the night before or I’d throw something together. Dinner was rice or potatoes, meat, veggies, and gravy and I’d end my day with a dessert. Somewhere between lunch and dinner I’d have another sweetened cup of coffee. Now it really doesn’t sound like I ate much food, in fact I didn’t really eat much at all but the foods I was eating was high in calories, and full of sugar.

One day while trying to find my next quick fix, I remembered one thing that did work for me before and I did well doing it. It was the low carb diet called the Atkins diet. The next day I started eating only low carb foods and finally felt like I was making a difference. I guess I felt like I was accomplishing something because I actually made a change. I continued doing the diet until I got sick of eating the same thing. I lost a couple pounds but it wasn’t enough to really motivate me. Oh I forgot to mention that I was exercising a little and I only did it when I felt like it. Ok… honestly it was probably 3 times a month. Woohoo go me!! HA!

I knew the moment I started that diet it would work, but only for as long as I “stuck” to it. But who wants to restrict themselves to certain foods when there are so darn many great tasting food that are healthy for you. The whole point behind me telling you about all my quick fixes and fad diets is basically me saying “Been there, done that” if you’re looking  to lose weight and “KEEP” it off then forget about the quick fixes, fad diets.

After finally realizing that I wasn’t going to lose any weight sitting on my bum, I decided to do some research and start slow. One of the first things I found out and it’s basic common sense, cut out sugary stuff like sodas, sweetened teas and coffee. I started there and cut out my daily coffee, got rid of the sweetened iced tea, bought myself a pretty water bottle, filled our refrigerator pitchers with water (instead of two pitchers of sweetened tea) and started drinking water, and hot tea when I got a craving. I also starting exercising which was only about 20 mins a day on the treadmill. Hey it was a start! Believe me this helped alot!! I started noticing that without all the extra sugary drinks I wasn’t craving all the sugary foods, like cookies, cakes etc. That’s a big step! When you can cut out the sugars you’re helping yourself a lot more than you think. This was the start to a healthier, fit me and I soon found myself wanting to make more changes in both my eating and exercising habits. Backpacks… shoes… and sports gear …. oh my!! If you have kiddies you can probably understand that statement, it seems like the more you ask them to please put their backpacks … shoes … and sports gear in their proper places the more you see them lying on the floor. The person I am today is having Fun with Fitness?? I know you’re probably thinking “Yeah… sure Deb!! who are you kidding… how can exercising be fun?” I know I thought the same thing, but if you continue to follow me on my fitness journey you’ll see how much fun it can be. Oh, don’t frown… trust  me…. you’ll see. I am also going to share with you tons of healthy recipes that are filling and taste great! You’ll soon join me in saying “Healthy Eating and Lovin It!”  But before we get to all the fun and healthy stuff I want to share with you a little story.

2 years ago I went to our local gym, signed up for a monthly membership, and met with one of the staff trainers. Let me add that I thought he was a part of my membership plan, little did I know it would eventually cost a small fortune for him to help me reach my fitness goal. Now this guy was good during our little discussion, he was very encouraging and at one point had me in tears. Yes I know, saying it now sounds pretty damn wimpy.  I was overweight and didn’t like what I was being told, so I did the easiest thing to do “cry”.

After making me feel that I was super important and telling me how he was going to help me reach my fitness goal, he then added “very lightly” that it would only cost me $30 an hour and that we could do as little as 2 hours a week. I wanted to cry again, but politely thanked him for his time, went out and did a 20 minute walk on a treadmill.

I think from that day forward I was discouraged I didn’t know where to start or if what I was doing would help me achieve the goals I had in mind. But I continued to go daily, I’d walked for 20 minutes on the treadmill and did a couple weight machines. There seemed to be something missing every time I left the gym, I never felt like I did anything that helped. I know 20 minutes of activity daily is alot better than nothing at all… but in my mindset I wasn’t accomplishing anything. This went on for a couple months, I did see a slight difference and was starting to feel a little better but I lacked the determination to push on. So my visits to the gym became further and further apart until I wasn’t going at all. You can probably guess what happened next… well if you guessed I ganged the weight back then you’re correct.

I did put back on the weight I lost and then some, I slipped into a slight depressed mode and went back to my normal activities and eating habits. Which meant I would get most of my exercise from the chores I did around the house, and I’d eat what/when I wanted. Big mistake! Before I decided that I was sick of being that me, my weight was through the roof (a whooping 185 lbs.) and I felt like crap. I disliked everything I had let myself become.

Then came the quick fixes, and any new fad diet. I admit some of the quick fixes helped, but they were short lived. They were quick fixes and I ended up getting discouraged and went back to doing the same thing I did before my quick fix. I knew there was nothing a bottle, a wrap or any miracle overnight serum that would help me. I knew I had to do it the good ole fashion way, but I wasn’t ready to do the work and focus on my health and weight just yet…. I have yet to see the movie Life of Pi. I admit I am cheap and with the cost of taking a family of 4 to a movie it’s ridiculous!! In reality we can own 4 to 5 movies for the price of us going to a movie theater to watch one. Yes, there are occasions that we will splurge and do dinner and a movie.

I haven’t really shared much on my new adventure. Yes, another one! I have been on this health kick and have been exercising daily. Yes, my wonderful readers I said daily. I have a little gadget called FitBit, you might remember me talking about it a few months back. Well I finally decided to “really” put it to use and love it. But it doesn’t monitor my heart rate and I know that you’re supposed to raise your heart rate during exercising for it to be a good workout.

My dilemma is do I use one of those heart rate monitor watches, or do I get a monitor that you wear on your arm? Some of the ones I’ve been looking at are pretty fancy in a sense that they also monitor your calories in/out and other things. I don’t really need it to monitor other things as I actually keep a log of everything I eat/drink. Plus the little gadget I have tells me how many steps I’ve taken and calories burned.

So as push through my new adventure you’re probably going to hear more about it.  The weight I’ve lost, the foods I am eating, and more about the exercises I am doing. Wish me luck everyone

At the time we ordered them the sales associate said that they would be the same color of our entertainment center and they’d match perfectly. Well they didn’t and now we are now told that even if they used the same stain there would be a slight difference because of the wood and stain were from different lot #’s.

A long story short, we now have a wood staining project on our hands. Since we won’t be replacing the entertainment center for a good while, we want to try to find a stain that with match it better than the tables do now. (it’s a very slight difference but it’s something that bothers the hub’s and I) So after some research I came across Flood® Wood Care. We are still in the process of finding the perfect shade of stain that will match our entertainment center. I have always been a fan of all things Apple, from iPhone to the iPod you can count on me to get all googly eyed over them. We are happy owners of iPods, and iPads and as of 3 days ago we are official owners of a couple of iPhone 5. Yes, I am in heaven and have already given the hub’s a big thanks for my shining new toy.

I know with all the Apple gadgets we already have, you’d think that I would be some what of an expert. Let me state that, that is far from the truth. I am actually somewhat intimidated by it, I have successfully activated my phone, got my network settings working, and changed a few notifications and ringtones. I also installed Facebook and Twitter which come on the phone just not activated. I had those apps on my previous android phone so I know how they work

With that being said not only am I wondering what some good apps are, but I wanted to share with you some interesting things about the latest Facebook update and what it means for iPhone owners.

I saw a fellow blogger say something about not liking the new Facebook for iPhone, I wasn’t sure why or what part she didn’t like. I didn’t notice anything different with Facebook on iPhone or from my old android phone. Later that evening I got an update alert to get Facebook for iPhone, I thought I already had it I mean since it was pre-installed when my phone arrived. Anyways of course I did the update but didn’t use Facebook from my phone until this morning. That’s when I noticed the new features, and actually like them. I decided to do a little research on the update, and I now know what those little features are and thought I’d share it with y’all.

The two new features are from the Facebook Home experience which I read somewhere that there is alot more to it if you are using an android phone. Anyways the update included Chat Heads and Stickers, Chat Heads is basically a little avatar that pops up when you’ve messaged a FB friend. The new feature works from any where within the Facebook app, and the little avatars can be moved around your screen. I think it’s a neat little addition for now at least.

Then there are Stickers which are like emoticons for Facebook messages,  interesting if you like that kind of stuff. The update also included better news feeds for the iPad. Which I have yet to see for myself, but I heard that it’s a cleaner, bolder version of news feeds.

Since this is being rolled out slowly  I read that you may have to reboot your device for the new features will show up. Have you seen the new features? What are your thoughts on them? Do you have an app you’d like to recommend?

Summertime fun is just around the corner, and with a little one still in diapers we normally depend on the little swimmer diapers. Not this summer, because we’ll be using our Charlie Banana 2 in 1 Swim Diaper that we received for our review.

We received a Melody Xylophone from their Child Development toy line. The xylophone is wooden, and has eight colored bars that produce musical notes true to scale. There is a holder for the mallet on the underside of the xylophone. It also came with 3 musical sheets that are colored coded to help your little one learn to play.

We also received a set of Fairy Tales Blocks from their Functions toy line. I loved these wooden blocks; they are beautifully colored and even included a princess & prince. My granddaughter Kayden immediately fell in love with this set, and after hours of imaginative play she still wasn’t ready to clean up. Oh there was also a carriage and two wooden horses, which was a great little added touch to this set.

Both of the above toys are suited for children 3 years+, but with supervision my almost 2 year old grandbaby Elizabeth had a just as much fun playing with them.

My daughter (Dani) is going to college, she is going to study to become a Social Worker. Before she made up her mind what it was she wanted to do, we talked to her about becoming an RN. In the process of trying to show her the benefits etc. of being an RN I came across a company that helps provide urgent and crucial temporary nurses to help hospitals provide continuous, high-quality patient care during emergency situations.

When I came across the site I had to show my daughter, all the great things I had read about it. I mentioned the many emergency type situations and how she could be a part of the Rapid Response team etc, anyways none of it persuaded her as she really wants to become a Social Worker.

But this is definitely a great site for individuals that have a nursing license.
