I fired the maid, so I am stuck doing the dishes!

I didn’t really fire the maid, well not recently at least. The other night while I was washing the dishes I got to thinking about when I had a maid. The hub’s used to laugh at me because before she arrived I’d clean and after she left I’d clean, not that I am a picky person and things need to be done “perfectly”. It’s just what I did, so I eventually ended up firing the maid.

The one thing I liked about having the maid was that she always put away the dishes from the dishwasher. Now I am not lazy and I keep a clean house, but I dislike unloading the dishwasher. No really I dislike it so much I taught all the kiddies where the dishes go so they could help. (I know bad … deb .. bad..) Hey, I have an excuse… it’s teaching them responsibility. :)

Anyways with my dislike to unloading the dishwasher being so high up on the list of “things I just don’t like doing” I try to avoid even washing dishes in the dishwasher (The hub’s likes that, saves on the water and electric) Every once in a while I’ll use the dishwasher like when, we have company, or a couple of times a month I’ll use it to sanitize the dishes. But for the most part I don’t mind hand washing dishes. But I don’t like having a big dish drainer and towel or those plastic trays the drainers sit on, on the countertop. I know I sound picky, I don’t like this… don’t like that… Our kitchen can be seen as you come around our entry way, and from the door leading into the garage. I don’t like seeing the clutter and I don’t think it looks tidy for all our visitors to see a towel with a pile of dishes on it either.

I had to find an alternative to a towel, and to those ugly plastic/metal dish drainers. I finally found a nice folding dish drainer, but it didn’t come with a tray to sit it on. Then I finally found the perfect dish drying mat called The Original Drying Mat which is a  new solution to the age-old tradition of placing dish towels on the counter when hand washing dishes, and glassware. The Original Mat sent me their smaller mat in cream color to try.

This mat high quality and super absorbent, it looks so much better than the ugly dish towels or those plastic/metal dish drainer mats. The unique, laminated design combines a thin layer of foam between two layers of high quality, super absorbent microfiber. It’s cushioned layers help protect your dishes,  it’s also machine washable and folds up to store out the way. Other suggested uses for the mat is under appliances, and cutting boards to help protect your countertops from scuffs and scratches. Another great point to mention is that it’s very affordable and can be found in many stores.
