Buying A New Car – Decisions Decisions

Buying A New Car

This past month we made the last payment on my car, actually it’s a mini van. I am excited that once again we have a title to a vehicle. This will make the third car since 2004 that we’ve paid off and received a title on. The car that I had before my typical mom car (a mini van) was a white sporty Grand Am. I loved that car but it wasn’t the best thing to be driving with teenagers. My daughter always had several friends over and more often than not, I was the one to drive them around. I didn’t mind but the hard thing was trying to fit 5 teenager girls “safely” into it. This lead us to give up a paid in full car, and trade it for a mini van.

Now that my car is paid off, we’ve thought about getting a new car. There are a couple of things that we need to decide, one the type of car we want and secondly should we save the now freed up money instead. Decisions.. Decisions.

Until we’ve made up our minds on what we’re going to do, I’ll keep browsing online at the cars that catch my eye.
I have always loved Infiniti and the look of their cars, and after trusting my good friend Google I landed on an Infiniti dealership site, and fell in love with their IPL (Infinity Performance Line) G Coupe, there is something about the way it looks that caught my eye. It’s classy with a little spice? I also love the Infiniti M37 Sedan, and the G Convertible.

Excitedly I called the hub’s over and showed him the cars I liked. We all know how the guys get when it comes to cars, they want all the specs etc. After looking at gas mileage, under the hood, the extras etc. he smiled then said “hey Deb, you do know you’re looking at Infiniti Los Angeles right? Not wanting him to get the last word, I had to throw in my own smart ass comment and said “Yep, I also looked at Los Angeles used cars, thought we’d drive up and get my new car.” He just shook his head and smiled, as I stuck my tongue out and threw in “of course I know the dealership is in Los Angeles, but I was only window shopping for now.”

We still haven’t made a decision on getting a new car or saving the money, I’ll continue to window shop and show the hubs the cars I like. Maybe tonight to get back at him I’ll pull up a mustang (one car he’d never think twice about, since he loves them) and tease him with it. HA! I can hear it now. The conversation would probably go like this ” Hey babe, why don’t you take my car, we trade in your car, and I get this one (which would be a loaded mustang) for me.” *evil grin* I love teasing him.

Do you have a title to one of your vehicles? When you decide to buy a car, do you go new or used?

I vote for saving the money and trying to pay cash for the next car. :)

  2. UGH – I hate buying new cars. Great post and I will be back to read more. I added you on Google+. It looks to be an entertaining read around here!

Charlie, thanks for stopping by!! I think the fun is browsing them online! Thanks for the add! Come back anytime :)

  3. Hi there! new LF follower here via Friendship Friday.

We made the decision when we paid off our mini van that as a one income family, it would not be smart for us to buy a newer car. So we have been car payment free for two years now. Such freedom! Enjoy it until you find the right one!!

Fruitloopgirl, we are also a one income family and for now it might be the route we are taking. Thanks for stopping by!

I love the way you combined the letters, very creative. :) I have never owned a car. I live in Chicago and the bus is always right there and so is the train. I have had the use of several used cars over the years from family and friends, but when I own, I really, really want a Dodge Challenger. A white one just like Kowalski from Vanishing Point. Sorry, I’m a bit of car geek. :) Am trying to figure out how to follow as I don’t have Linky or belong to Networked.

    • Deborah says:

Melissa, Challengers are nice cars. Oh maybe subscribe to my feed, you’ll get an email with the post directly in your inbox.

Our Grand Am is dead in the driveway. It’s definitely lived a long and useful life. RIP. We tend to do a lot of research – like Consumer Reports before making a commitment.

    • Deborah says:

I loved my Grand Am! Thanks for stopping by and the hubs does all the consumer reports etc.

  6. It is fun to look at cars…old ones, new ones, classics…cars are a kick regardless. Good luck in your search for the perfect one to meet your needs. It can be challenging, but once you do, you’ll be positively thrilled!

    • Deborah says:

Thank you and you’re right it is fun, I love the old classic cars.

  7. Anna Smith says:

I don’t drive but that car does look very, very shiny. I may have to get lessons now hehe :)

    • Deborah says:

Anna, I often wished I didn’t drive. Any more it’s mad crazy out there on the roads

  8. I have a Toyota Matrix, and I love it so much that I hope it lasts at least another 10 years. Not exactly sporty, but versatile, carries a ton of stuff, and drives great in the snow. If I ever do get a new car, it MUST have heated seats :-)

  9. Hi Debbie, stopping over from Twitter to say hello. Good luck with your new car purchase decision.

  10. Hilary says:

Hi Debra .. buying a new car is always a difficult decision .. I now have an old Merc inherited from my uncle – and actually wouldn’t swap it easily .. I’m beginning to think as long as it goes and doesn’t cause me a problem I’ll hang on to it – and put the saved cash elsewhere for a rainy day..

Thanks for popping over to my blog and leaving a comment – appreciate that …

Good luck with the decision .. cheers Hilary

    • Hilary says:

Hi Debbie .. got the wrong name!! Not a good start – apologies .. cheers Hilary

      • Deborah says:

Hilary, it’s ok I’ve been called Debra too! No need to apologize :)

    • Deborah says:

Hilary, thank you for stopping by. That is the decision we’re debating. I’d much rather have a rainy day savings jar.

  11. Ruth says:

Right now we have a used Tacoma. Still paying for it. Before that we had a new Avenger that we traded in for the truck. Never did own it outright. Before that we owned some used cars that we just paid cash for. No loan! I miss those days.

    • Deborah says:

Ruth thanks for stopping by, I know I remember when $1.5k – $2 k could get a nice used car (from someone trustworthy too) Hard to come by nowadays.
