Meet Stephanie Abbott!!

Stephanie AbbottStephanie Abbott writes under the popular name, S.A. Reid. Well known for her “real and likeable characters”, she also writes  paranormal fiction, fantasy, and sci-fi and mysteries as Emma Jameson .

In a recent interview with Pandora Poikilos, she was asked “what inspired you to become a writer?”  Her response, “Reading, I suppose. I loved to read from an early age and by 8 I tried to write my first novel – something about a blind girl who could transform herself into a sighted alley cat. If there was more to the story, I don’t recall. Then when I was 11, I met my best friend, Maryam, a much more advanced writer, and had to improve to keep up! So I’ll chalk it up to reading and friends.”  I love this, it makes us realize how important books and reading materials are in our world. You can read more of her interview by clicking on the link above.  She is on tour with the Orangeberry Book Tour.

Something Different
Written as S. A. Reid

Something Different by S.A. ReidUnhappily married Michael Maguire decides to do something different. Setting out to hire a female prostitute, Michael instead finds blue-eyed, beautiful James Campbell. Tempted in ways he never imagined, Michael embarks on a sexual adventure with a rent boy from London’s East End. No form of pleasure is off the table. Not even love…

This book is definitely something different, and Stephanie has taken the time to elaborate on it. Below she describes her character Michael and how he came about getting involved with “Rent Boys”.

Rent Boys
By Stephanie Abbott

In Something Different, my lead character Michael Maguire goes out looking for a female prostitute and ends up engaging a rent boy. Here’s a little background on the British male prostitution scene and rent boys today.

Everyone knows that Greek society tolerated male/male relationships, in some cases even touting them as superior – after all, men were considered superior to women, so two men together must be the supreme form of love, or so the reasoning went. But did you know Queen Mary – “Bloody Mary,” the religious fanatic who preceded Queen Elizabeth I – repealed the “Buggery Statute?” She looked on male/male lovers with tolerance. Indeed, in Renaissance England, what we consider homosexual conduct was just part of the male spectrum of sexuality. Men could openly court their male lover – “Ganymed” – as long as they eventually married a woman and produced children. But by the 1700s, things had begun to change, and m/m conduct went underground.

Ice Blue (Lord and Lady Hetheridge Series)
Written as Emma Jameson

Anthony Hetheridge, ninth Baron of Wellegrave, Chief Superintendent for New Scotland Yard, never married, no children, no pets, no hobbies, and not even an interesting vice, will turn sixty in three weeks. With the exception of his chosen career, too sordid for his blue-blooded family to condone, his life has been safe and predictable. But then he meets Detective Sergeant Kate Wakefield – beautiful, willful, and nearly half his age. When Hetheridge saves the outspoken, impetuous young detective from getting the sack, siding with her against Scotland Yard’s powerful male hierarchy, his cold, elegantly balanced world spins out of control. Summoned to London’s fashionable Belgravia to investigate the brutal murder of a financier, Hetheridge must catch the killer while coping with his growing attraction to Kate, the reappearance of an old flame, and the secret that emerges from his own past.
