Elvis Presley – The King
I have always been a big fan of Elvis Presley, I used to sit for hours as a little girl watching his beach movies with stars in my eyes and that dreaming little girl crush look on my face. Elvis had the looks and the voice that melted the hearts of woman and girls all over the world. Elvis Aaron Presley became an angel when I was 7, I remember coming home from school to see my mother and aunt sitting in a bean bag in front of our TV, crying their eyes out over the news broad cast of his death. It was a sad day all over the world for Elvis fans.
I bring up Elvis, because today while at the Florida State Fair, we sat and watched the finals of an Elvis Impersonator contest. There was some really good-looking, sounding impersonators. I found myself aww’d again and hearing some of the songs brought back the days of my “Elvis” crush. These impersonators really take their act seriously, and I give a big high-five to them all.
It was really cute seeing some of the women, getting all goo goo gaga over the Elvis look a likes, many would stand down by the stage waiting for one of the Elvis’s to come to the edge and take off the trade mark scarf Elvis used to wear and wrap it around her neck flashing that sexy Elvis smile he was known for. I found myself wanting to go down there, even though I knew it wasn’t “Elvis” it was still exciting. I didn’t of course, I sat back and enjoyed the show. It was an enjoyable show and struck an interest in finding out information on the competition etc. So here I sit looking up more info and sharing with you.

The first Elvis impersonation actually started while Elvis was still alive, by a man named Johnny Elvis Foster, where he was starred in the showrooms at The Dunes Hotel and performed in competitions. It wasn’t until after Elvis’s untimely death on August 16, 1977 that impersonating Elvis become popular in mainstream. Andy Kaufman was considered the first notable impersonator whom Elvis himself said he was his favorite. If you are interested in learning more about the Elvis impersonator history then you can find it here.A couple of my favorite Elvis impersonators, are Billy Lindsey from Tampa, Florida who was in the show tonight and the winner of the 2009 International ELVIS Extravaganza Contest which also took place here in Florida at the State Fair, Billy took 1st place in 3 out of 4 classes, to see more about Billy follow this link. Billy really does a great Elvis impersonation and I enjoyed watching him perform.

Past winner Victor Trevino, won in 2008 he does a great impersonation of Elvis in his younger days and I must admit is definitely an eye catcher and has a lot of great “Elvis moves”. Watch Victor perform at the 2008 event.I am glad we stumbled upon this show today at the fair, I am looking forward in finding more information on this contest and maybe follow it more closely.
A couple of Elvis quotes
“Some people tap their feet, some people snap their fingers, and some people sway back and forth. I just sorta do ‘em all together, I guess.”
-Elvis in 1956, talking about his way of moving on stage.

“ ‘Til we meet you again, may God bless you. Adios.”

Very good.. I like Elvis and my wife has a cousin that does an Elvis Tribute ( not an impersonator really) So I have heard his songs many, many, many times lol. I still like his music lol. Thanks for the inf. By the way Andy was a favorite of mine in anything he did.. I think he is vastly underestimated because he died so youg
Debbie, first off I love your blog title, it really strikes a note in me. Also, the colors are so easy on my eyes, which is a huge thing for me. Love the post. Elvis had (and still does) the ability to transcend time with his music. Regardless of someone's favorite genre, or their age group, as an artist, musician and entertainer he was (and still is) captivating. Such a loss and I've often wondered about the lost music that was inside him when he died. Fortunately, his music does live on and will for future generations. While his act lives on via some unreal impersonators.
Norazam, thanks for stopping by and commenting, I too love those songs. I actually think that I have yet to hear a song of his that I don't like. Carlos, thank you again for your continued support, you are a dear friend

from his mouth "I ain't no saint, but I've tried never to do anything that would hurt my family or offend God…I figure all any kid needs is hope and the feeling he or she belongs. If I could do or say anything that would give some kid that feeling, I would believe I had contributed something to the world." that is a king. grreat post god bless
